Aspirations

I'm getting more and more anxious and excited about grad school. Today, I drove to my high school to have an old teacher give me feedback on my personal statement. On my way there, John Mayer's "Bigger Than My Body" played on the radio. I love the lyrics so ofcourse I sang along. I thought about how much I identified with that song during my senior year of high school while I worked on college applications. I remember feeling alone but I knew I was on the verge of something great. I'm revisiting those feelings as I work on essays and research schools. I become more and more passionate about public health everytime I find another awesome program. It makes me feel like there are so many ways to make a difference! PA programs also become more and more appealing. So many programs, so many options, so much excitement!

My old teacher looked at me with the proud eyes of a parent when he finished reading my essay. He said, "Mayra, you need to point out more of your strengths. You're tenacious, resiliant, extremely giving - I can't even put it in words. You willingly do things others just don't do. You look past what others would see as barriers. That needs to come out. The readers need to see that." Hearing him say this the way that he did, almost brought tears to my eyes. Having to write a personal statement is the most difficult yet also the most fun part of the application (in my opinion). I'm happy to have so much support and I'm looking forward to seeing how this new chapter of my life unfolds :)
