The doctor's words (he did his undergrad at UCSD): " You're a UCSD alumni, I expect that you will learn quickly."
Second week at my newest job and I'm taking x-rays, processing them, drawing injections at the doctor's request, assisting and setting up for procedures, doing castings on the patients, fitting cam-walkers, bandaging after a surgical procedure, casting for orthodics, doing low-dye straps, explaining stretching exercises and more. I've learned so much in the past week and a half.
By quickly, the doctor meant he explains something once and expects me to have mastered it in a matter of seconds. For example, he was doing a matrixectomy and as he put the dressing on the toe he said, "Mayra, watch how I apply this. You will apply the dressing on this patient's next toe and explain the post-op procedures."
This is definitely one of the most fun jobs I've had. I wish I found it sooner. Today, I'll be removing sutures on a patient - another thing I've observed just once. Can't wait!

Nice, isn't private practice great! You get to do so much without a single certificate required :)
He's setting a high standard for you. That's a sign of respect!
